DEPARTMENT OF Statistics PROFILE



                            Sri Govindaraja Swamy Arts College, Tirupati was established in the year 1969 as a sister college of Sri Venkateswara Arts College, Tirupati,Andhra Pradesh, affiliated to S. V. University, Tirupati, by the religious institution called Tirumala Tirupati Devastanams (TTD), Tirupat to meet the demands of the increasing number of students for educational necessities. Mr M. Chandramouli Reddy, the then Executive Officer of TTD took initiative in establishing this college with pious and virtual excellence in good faith to promote education in this developing area.


Initially the college was started for men-students only in the rear buildings of S.V. High School, Tirupati and opposite to the District law-courts complex in the centrally located area of Tirupati and was easily accessible to students of all areas and corners of Tirupati.

The college is a private-aided college managed with TTD funds, approved by University Grants Commission, with AISHE Code C-27738.

The TTD management constructed new pukka beautiful building for the college addressed at Tiruchanur Road, Tirupati in 1988.

The college was started with B.A., B.Sc., B.Com courses of 3 years duration. Since its inception the college is being counted as one of the top-rated colleges with excellent academic track record and highly qualified staff with Ph.D.

 The Department of Statistics was established in the college during its inception i.e., in 1969 and achieved many university top ranks till date. It has completed 51 years of successful academic excellence in parallel with the College.

  The Dept. was attached to the Dept. of Mathematics initially, with one lecturer, offering Statistics in B.A. (Mathematics, Economics, Statistics).Later B.Sc (Mathematics, Physics, Statistics) was introduced. Also, practical classes in Statistics were conducted with Manual calculators of HALDA Company and one Attender for the laboratory of Statistics was appointed.

In the year 1985 teaching in Telugu medium was introduced by Late Sri N.T. Rama Rao, the then C.M. of A.P. State. The work-load was doubled and hence the number of Lecturers was increased to 4 with one instructor. Also, the Statistics Dept. was bifurcated with independent status in the year  1989.

B.A. (Accontancy, Economics, Statistics) was introduced in both English and Telugu Media, with the target that successful candidates can do Charted Accountancy (CA) or can get jobs in Banking sector.But, in the year 2002 this group has been substituted by B.A. (Accountancy, Statistics, Computer applications) with the same target.

Electronic calculators were supplied to the Dept. by TTD Management, for fast computations in the Statistics laboratory.

 Co-education was introduced by the TTD Management in the year 2008 and many lady students have chosen Statistics in Degree level as one of the 3 subjects.B.Sc. (Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science) was introduced in the year 2001, as both Mathematics and Statistics are connected with Computer Science.

ACHIEVEMENTS & CREDENTIALS of the Dept. of STATISTICS

â–ºThis Dept. has been achieving 100 % results with 90%  of the students getting 1st Classes every year. Thus, the Dept. is standing in the Top Rank in the College and also in comparison with other degree colleges and getting appreciable credentials to the students, staff, Management. So, we are proud to announce that public prefer and compete to admit their children in our college especially Statistics groups


1)    Dr V.Subramanyam, M.Sc., D.S.Q.C., Ph.D.,served    

this college for 29 years since 1971, as Lecturer and Head of the Dept.,, became Reader in Statistics on getting Ph.D., in the year 1980 during his service here, rose to the level of  Principal of S.V. Arts College, Tirupati and was honoured with “Best Teacher Award” by A.P. State government on the Teachers Day of 5,September,2000 and published “Elementary Encyclopedia of Statistics” in 6 Volumes, “Pictorial Dictionary ofStatistical Terminology” in 2 volumes and “High-Speed Pictorial StatisticalTables” with Germany publishers with good rating in marketing.

2) Prof P.Balasiddamuni,M.Sc.,Ph.D.,was a former student of this Dept. became Lecturer in Statistics in S.V. University College, rose to the cadre of Professor, got honoured with “Best Teacher Award” by AP State Government on the Teachers Day of 5,September,1998 and later became member of the Executive Council of S.V. University and published 50 books in Statistics with Germany publishers, with which he entered into the “Miracle World Record” on publishing the largest number of books in short period in the year 2014.

3) Prof K. Venkatramaiah Chetty, M.Sc., Ph.D., was a  student of this Dept., became Lecturer in Statistics in  S.V. University College and rose to the level of      

Professor of Statistics.

4)   Prof V. Kothandarama Reddy, M.Sc.,Ph.D.,was a student of this Dept., became Lecturer in Statistics in S.V. University College, then as Lecturer in Econometrics in the Dept., od Econometrics and rose to the level of Professor of Econometrics in S. V.University.


              Similarly, many students from the Dept. have been getting University ranks and getting selected for M.Sc Statistics in ISI , some have become Lecturers in S.V. University College and rose to the level of Professors; some have become Lecturers in this college, some in S. V. Arts College, some in Degree Colleges in Chittoor, Nellore, Kadapa etc., districts and in many other colleges.

Also, many former students of this Dept. are in high level administrative jobs in many parts of India and also working as Software Engineers in other Countries.
