Overview


The department was established in the year 2009 in SGS Arts college. The department was started with a vision to impart practical job oriented education especially for the students of rural back ground. The department continuously strives and provides comprehensive environment. It strives to develop an awareness of various career opportunities and options with in hospitality industry. The main objective is to provide quality education and opportunity to the student in the field of hospitality management in hotel, tourism, and cruise and air line industry. The College provides free hostel facility to all students from economically backward class.


Vision 

We strongly believe in the age old concept of “Athithi Devo Bhava” We  train students in such a manner so that they can   fulfill  lead industry requirements through proper hospitality skills development, operational exposure, managerial competence and a strategic outlook and industrial Training. The department motivates and empowers the students to be good leader who spread light of equality in society  

Successful students of our department must have the knowledge, skill, motivation & experience who have taken various responsibilities in different parts of world in Tourism, Hotel & Hospitality.

We prepare our students, as highly motivated professionals and industry-oriented specialists which will allow them to make an entrance in one of the fastest growing industries in the world

As Hospitality is a people oriented business and we work on to develop people skills, through activities, such as presentation and project work assignments, and by giving our students the training and encouragement to build their social expertise. We will express industry requirements through the provision of hospitality skills development, various competitions and extra curriculum activities.

Teaching methods adopted to improve student learning
  • The department uses a combined  teaching methodology which includes class participation, demonstration, recitation, seminars by students,project work, field visit, industrial visits,   Educational trips, surveys are organized at departmental levels.    
  • We mould students to be morally upright, socially committed and spiritually inspired.
  • The departments have e-groups and phone groups for assignments and projects. Students are encouraged to take summer training or on the job training.
  •  The students are encouraged  to participate in various college level activities like extempore, Essay writing competition, Rangoli, NSS, NCC, Blood donation camp to make better individuals and responsible members of the society, The department in collaboration with other departments promotes interdepartmental collaborative activities like Poshak Aahar, Parkamani duties.
  •  The students are motivated to participate in online quizzes, skill development classes by various chefs through internet media. Department conducts monthly test for students  and social activities such as Swatch Bharat.
Details of Infrastructural Facilities
  • Library:The college library provides subject related books, Competitive exams related books ,Reading room, General books ,Magazine and Newspaper  which helps in overall developments of students academically.
  • Hostel:The 3 buildings of college hostels can accommodate around  1800 Boys students at a time including all three year with a  spacious dining area ,play ground facility and gardens in between.
  • Sports:Gym ,Badminton court, Cricket ground
  • Labs  and other facilities-The department provides basic training in Food production ,Food and Beverage ,House keeping  and Front office through Practicals.

Strengths

Weaknesses


  1. Only graduate course offered. The department is understaffed and have not been able to make the Alumni Association very active .

  4. To empower our girls to take their rightful place in the world by training them to become professionals of India
Challenges


Still communication skills is one the biggest challenges that student face when they go to different part of country. Lack of computers in compression to student which affects their computer literacy in full fledged manner.

Future Plans


Department plans to construct fully fledged labs which could accommodate at least 30 students at one time. A request has been made to college authority for equipment's  required by the department, A list of books has been submitted to the Library committee so that students can improve their knowledge by reading latest edition of  books .
