National service scheme is a central sector scheme of Govt. of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs &Sports, New Delhi Popularly known as NSS. The scheme was launched in 1969.Mahatma Gandhiji’s Centenary Year. The scheme aimed at developing student’s personality through community service andbringing social welfare of the rural communities by volunteerservice. Our institute has introduced NSS since its inception in 1969 to foster love for social service among the students (of belonging to)in their learning age. NSS provides a vibrant platform to the students of the institute to show case their hidden skills. It enables the students (of belonging to) different socio-economic strata to come together and share their experiences. It gives an opportunity to the students to come in touch with rural life with its difficulties during stay in rural area.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES  :

  • NSS has been introduced with aim of providing hands on experience to young students in delivering community service.
  • To enable the students  to understand the community in which they  work
  • To understand themselves in relation to their community.
  • To indentify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem solving processes.
  • To develop among themselves sense of social and civic responsibility.
  • To utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems.
  • To develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities.
  • To acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes.
  • Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disaster.
  • Practice national integration and social harmony

MOTTO  :

  • The motto of NSS is “Not Me ButYou”.
  • The motto reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service.

SYMBOL:

  • The symbol of NSS is “Thewheel” of the giant Rath of world famous konark Sun Temple (The Black Pagoda),Odessa,India.
  • The well portrays the cycle of creation, preservation and release and signifies the movement in life across time and space. The symbol these stand for continuity as well as change and implies for continuous striving of NSS for social change.

BADGE  :

The NSS symbol is embossed on the badge. The eight bars signify the 24 hours of a day remaining the wearer to be ready for the service of the nation round the clock. The red color indicates that the volunteer is full of young blood that is lively,active,energetic and full of high spirit. The navy blue color indicates that cosmos of which the NSS is tiny part ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind.

Term of NSS:

A student enrolled in NSS is expected to put in at least 120 hours of social service in an academic year and shall be entitled to get a certificate from the university/ college on completion of years i.e. 240 hours.

PROGRAMS  undertaken by NSS:

  • Regular NSS activities under the students can undertake various social program in college campus or in the adopted village during the week ends
  • Or after college hours for not less than 120 hours per year.
  • The regular activities organized by NSS include:
  1. Cleanliness drives in the college and other places.
  2. Voter awareness rallies in the town and village.
  3. AIDS awareness rallies.
  4. Tree plantation programs.
  5. NSS youth festivals.
  6. National integration camps.
  7. Blood donation programs.
  8. International yoga day
  9. NSS special camps
